Design Project: Inhabit volume I

Put all of my initital ideas on A1 paper as if it is my sketch book. Therefore it contains some good ideas and some discarded idea that I did not want to carry on with, informations about OGG building, some experiments of the technique that I wanted to use on presentaion of my final design also my doodles as well.

My Final design

Mediaeval Carnival in my opinion is about people changing their usual routine by relieve to what they actually are or want to be don’t have acting or hiding it behind anymore. So at the carnival it is the time that they can be honest to themselves. According to OGG level0 where people waiting for the next lecture, some of them sit on the tables some of them are on the floor. It is the significance of the hierarchy also showing how relaxes of peoples that sitting on the floor are. Just like you be at home in the most comfortable position. As same as the idea of mediaeval carnival, people that sitting on the table that represent to person who always care and go along with the social and losing their way.

So my design is based on people that sitting on the tables by changing their feeling and behavior try to draw whatever inside of them out. My inhabitancy is making the confine space for people to doing their activities inside. Each room are normally for one person only the reason for that is the only way that people can express or relieve their feeling that is deeply inside of them is by being alone.

The form of my design is derived from the character of my 3d scan how line is suddenly changed from the web form to dense of lines. So my idea is about changing the angles or directions and distorting the shape of each component in my design and set them all together.

Materials is made from wood which represent the idea of tree roots that are seeking for the water spontaneously like us that are looking for what we actually want.

Intentionally My design is not merging to the site because I want to emphasis on the idea of carnival how the group of people is not fitting the social, it is like spot on the social. However mediaeval carnival still sharing some aspects with the social. Therfore my deisign has been showing the sense of relationship between the site and my design by using the straight lines on my design which ogg based their interior design on geometric shapes as well.

Aerial Plan and Section of my design; make us to understand more about the space and function of the design. How people can actually incorperated to the design.

  1. Great presentation once again lol, i think this is kind of offtopic, but I found it interesting how a defect/spot on your paper caused you to start drawing this nice effect which actually affected your design in the end (or was it the other way around? im not sure..).

    Anyways:
The paper was really well structured, the development and thought was evident. This is especially seen in your consideration of everything e.g. people internally looking at themselves when they're by themselves in a quiet space.

Perhaps an improvement here could be considerating a group of people utilizing your design (this is totally subjective since it kind of goes against your idea of having pockets of space for self thought). Another point could be creating more space for people to sleep maybe (think you did a little bit on your section). This could possibly accelerate self thought, and would give another function for using your design.

Another point is that it was great that you considered the materiality of your design, and I think it was a good choice to choose wood, it would give a really great NZ feel just because our older houses have been made out of timber, and i think a wooden spatial facade in the OGGB would actually give it a NZ feel.

However, this project did not really have the strong link to the merging of classes as the previous idea, but that wasn't really the project's idea - so I think you shouldn't have talked about, just leave it out, cos I think that link isn't evident here.

Good luck for ur next project
